Artist's Comments

Some of my favorite mer characters. More of a rougher speedpaint, but these guys seem to be the most fun to draw. Species were guessed already, so here they are.

Glaucer- glaucus atlanticus nudibranch
Chantrea - zebra lionfish
Cheesestick - chromodoris (annae or michaeli) nudibranch
Kiziko - spanish dancer nudibranch
Cruz - hourglass dolphin
Kiran - polychaete fireworm
Dee - Dumbo octopus

It may be a rougher speedpaint to you, but this is just plain awesome to me. ^^ Not only is each character uniquely posed, but they all represent their species quite well. I especially love the nudibranch mers. Great job! :D

And if I may take a stab at the species, in no particular order: Spanish dancer, hourglass dolphin, fireworm, vampire squid, Chromadoris michaeli, scorpionfish, and Glaucilla marginata?

I don't know what they are but they all look so huggable!

Can you identify this bear? [link]

Actually, I'm not sure if that's Chromodoris annae or Chromadoris michaeli up there. Likewise, the mer in the bottom right corner could very well be based off of the dumbo octopus instead. Gah. ^^;

You are right for nearly all. Cheesestick looks like both chromodoris annae and michaeli, so either one or both works. Glaucer is a glaucus, and the one in the corner is a dumbo octopus indeed. :D
:iconscythedragon:
Yay! :D But still, how did I mix up Glaucus atlanticus and Glaucilla marginata? That's...a nudibranch no no. XD;

Its more for gesture and color than detail or accuracy ^^; , but thanks!
:iconchael:
Half of them sting badly and are poisonous so hug at your own risk! xD
:iconchael:
They look nearly the same and are extremely close relatives, or subspecies depending on your source. Only difference is glaucilla is usually a bit smaller and bluer, and has a lot more spikeys than glaucus.
